well since all people in dune orginially came from Earth, where the largest religion is christianity, they should have heard of it. Jesuits I believe the God Emperor compared to the Bene Gesserit. are Jesuits something with Jesus?

The Jesuits were most noted for their missionary work among people like the Native Americans, where they attempted to "westernize" these people. Basically, this meant converting them to Catholicism, and making them dress/act more "civilized" (i.e. European).

wow, suprised this got back on topic.lol

the jesuits and the bene gesserit name similarities are only skin deep, they have no relation. If I remmeber right that is even mentioned in one of the books, and it is stated that it isnt the case.

Also vanny, not all jesuits did this, some even left the order to defend the people they converted. Many went out of their ways to allow other people's cultures to stay in tact. Of course you have certain times when things were better than others.

and it was a pretty silly argument there for a minute, which I thought should have been in prp.lol its okay though, back on target.

hm, that seemed nice of the Jesuits to give the native americans information about the right religion ;D lol, sorry I was just kidding. I feel sorry for them, don't think there are many left now of that culture :(

yeah I know it was a pretty silly discussion we had there.

I think in God Emperor at the chapter on the pages around 120-130 it is mentioned about the Jesuits. just read that part.

I used to be Christian, myself. But to me, I simply realized that no one particular religion has a monopoly on the nature of Truth and God. No diss to Christians, or Muslims, or anyone: it is in my own belief structure that Christianity is one of many paths.

Though I strongly disagree that democracy is unattainable without Christianity. First off, the textbook definition of democracy has actually never been documented ever in history. Much like communism, it is just a theory that has been aspired to. (Republic to democracy, socialism to communism)

Though if you mean 'democracy' as in the Western ideal of a modernized, representitive democracy (republic) government with the persuit of general well-being for the majority of the population, I have one word for you: Turkey.  ;D  Verymuch so an Islamic country, a man named Attaturk transformed Turkey into a modern day 'Westernized,' secularized (as in the government cannot technically endorse a religion by say for example, punishing people according to the Koran, as some Islamic extremists do, and generally maintains a seperation between church and state that most Western countries aspire for) country in the early 20th century.

Yes I believe Turkey is a good example of how the islamic states should develop. Turkey was before, the evil ottoman empire. I would compare them to Hitler, with their terror towards the population of their empire.

But now Turkey is perhaps beginning to become the most human of all the islamic countries.
