BattleStar Galactica

yes, lucas and his crew were innovative with special effects, I should have mentioned that.

Well from the original series, from what I remember, it is about a group of planets that are under attack by a race of robots. They are scattered from the planet and only a few ships remain. Among these ships is the last Battlestar called Galactica. It is the primary defense ship in the "rag tag" fleet of ships cargoing the very last of the entire 12 tribes of the 12 planets. There is a myth though of the lost 13th tribe, a tribe that was once with the other 12 tribes, but were seperated eons ago. The show is based on the fleet (with aid of the battlestar) looking for the lost 13th tribe on a planet that is known to them as "earth". They hope when they find earth that it will be technologically advanced and large in numbers, so that they can have a new base of operations to defeat the enemies. In the series they find the earth in 1969 though, when they have just reached the moon... not good odds.lol I think that was silly, as the novel makes earth extremely advanced and humanity rallies a good attack.

I think the premise of the new series is pretty weak. I will post the rest with hidden text in case others who have not seen the show don't want to know some of the key plot elements.

Spoiler follows:

I thought the way the Cylons disabled all of the computers was a pretty weak plotline. The military would not rely on such an easily disrupted system. All of the ships in the fleet (and all military systems for that matter) could be neutralized by remote control. I think there would be some sort of failsafe system to allow the ships to run manually without computer control. I also thought the cylons were way too good as pilots. In the original series the humans were way better pilots than the cylons. This is one thing that gives the humans a fighting chance. In the opening of this series a large amount of vipers are taken out by the cylons. Since there is no way to replace these ships the series will not last very long at this rate of losses. The ending also reveals that one of the Galactica crew members is a cylon sleeper agent. Things look pretty grim for the human race at this point. All in all I think they made the cylons too powerful to make the show last more than a few episodes. In trying to make the show more gritty and desperate I think they have ruined the basics of what made Battlestar Galactica a good television series. As it stands now it can only be a series of one or two minis.

I will say that the new series was quite entertaining. I am not sure I want it on DVD (assuming it is even released)unless they provide quite a few extras.
