Okay, this is a tough question for all of you, and not anti religion stuff please, I am serious about this question so please cut down on the sarcasm and smart arse stuff.

Basically, who is your favorite messianic figure in any religion? Which do you see is the true messiah, or if you dont believe in a messiah, who do you see as most amazing and unique?

Obviously I pick Christ, because in my faith he is God and man, united as one being, but two seperate persons. He is the great mystery. Unlike many religions, there is a great mystery in the faith of Jesus christ. (I know many other religions have great mysteries, but there is something about the Lord that feels so transcendant, yet so personal.)

He did something that saved all of humanity, and in such a humble way, it is amazing that God for atime degraded himself to become a man walking with us, he cared that much to humiliate his humanity in order to save it. THere is just something undescribable about the Lord, and it makes me believe strongly that he is the true messiah.

DO any of you guys have strong beliefs in a certain God or messiah? I would love to hear from all people of all religions. There is a beauty in the connection between all of them, and evne though I might not believe in the same people or God(s), it still shows a kinship of sorts.

hope to hear from you, know it is a personal question but I figure it would be neat to share these important matters. :)

i'd pick christ too, for pretty much the same reasons as BTI. he's a fairly unique figure in what he does, nowhere else does the god actually come down to finally sort the worlds problems out himself. or at least christianity's messiah seems the most plausible.

Christ, who else? There can't be another salvation than trough the God, but what we call "messiah" must be a human. So, Christ is the only possibility.

If you mean the closest to God then sure i would also pick Jesus Christ (however i do not believe in him).

But if you mean the closest to Muadib, one superbeing that has vision and face adversity against all odds, then i would pick Jeanne Of Arc.

Jeanne Of Arc was nothing but human, and yet what she has achieved is beyond imagination and recognized as the hand of God.

Nevertheless i admit being french helps in the choice.

It's all a matter of perspective.

I msyelf would pick Christ, and I defend that belef, but, I do know that, when it comes to Messianic figures, the boundaries tend to cross.

Muhammad, for me, was not a Messianic figure. I recognise him, however, as a prophet, and a great one for that. In fact, he would have been a good Christian, if only he had not been misniformed about CHristianity (it's true. After all, the Christianity he heard was said to be one that regarded Mary as God. Which, of course, is not true in Catholic doctrine, despite the Cult of the Virgin)

As to Joan of Arc: she's just one example of anyone, any saint, any person, who can show that weall have that Messiah within us. FlawedMessianic figures are everywhere, andwe are all messiahs; just not perfect ones. We're mnot God, but, there's is that SPirit within us.

Loo at Neo, from the Matrix, look at Frodo from Tolkien's work, look at Luke SKywalker, they were all representations of the Messianic figure in all of us.

I'd still go for CHrist, but, at the same time; I believe thta we can all be saviours in our own right.

And why would I pick Christ? Many reasons. And not just the ones stated above.

AFter all: the only best way to know Christ, is to devote one's life to following him himself. That si the mistake most ATheists make; they attack a religion without fully understanding it. (and a reason why nietzsche was so dangerous)

The above, alstly, is my opinion.

mohammed was NOT a messianic figure, in fact he would spin in his grave if any thought of him as a sort of christ.lol

Jesus isn't the only possible messianistic way. He was the only possible way of salvation in view of God, but as political-cultural messiah, even Muhammad would be considerable. Muad'Dib's way, you know.

caid, by the context I was writing about the greatest "spiritual" messiah, that is what messiah refers to, the expected one, the one sent from God, the one that brings the way.

With Christianity being the world's largest religion (I am not sure, but I heard it was around 2 billion, with Islam at 1.5 billion, if I am wrong, please correct me), and with Christianity surviving not only 2000 years, but 2000 years of adversity, I would name Christ as the greatest messiah of all time.

Think about the early days of Christianity; the Roman Empire, the most powerful empire in the world at that time, had dedicated itself to hunting Christians for more than a generation. Fields of crosses filled Roman lands as Christian cultists were executed. Soon, Christianity spread like wildfire, and as the Empire "fell", Christianity rose as the dominant force in it -- creating the Holy Roman Empire while, though not nearly as strong as its predecessor, was one of the more powerful nations of that age. It would take an *unshakable* faith in a messiah in order to accomplish this. I measure a messiah not by the miracles he performs, but by the faith others have in him.
