if it isn't broken. . .don't fix it.

I have been using DirectX 9 sind it came out. . . got really fed up with the first version. . although those bugs have been removed now. Think it should be safe to use it if you would want to. Didn't check it yet, but if you don't have any DirectX9 supported hardware or play games that require it. . . the need isn't that big to upgrade. Although I think that if you can upgrade to 9. . .. it won't harm you.. .

You can more than safely upgrade to Directx 9 without being afraid of nasty effects.

Most new games recommend that you have it installed, so why not?

It does not slow your computer down; It just adds some extra functionality where supported and used.
