Here we go again...

Some colors and crests of houses actually named in the books.

Is there an 'official' list anywhere?

Can anyone fill the gaps?

1. ATREIDES - Green & Black - Red Hawk

2. HARKONNEN - Blue & ? - Blue Griffin

3. CORRINO - Scarlet & Gold - Gold Lion

4. VERNIUS - Purple & Copper - Purple/Copper Helix

5. RICHESE - White & Gold ? - Lamp motif ?

Clues: Richesian premier, Ein Calimar wore white/gold suit and arrived in white & gold ornithopter.(HH book)

Quote:"she had chosen jewelry and colors resplendent with the markings of House Richese, rival to Ix, as if to twist a knife into the Vernius exiles."(P.279 H.Atreides).

Cape with "Richesian lamp of knowledge."(p.437, HA)

6. MORITANI - Yellow livery mentioned a few times in H.Harkonnen book.

7. GINAZ - ?

8. ECAZ - maybe fogwood, forest theme ?

9. MUTELLI - Crest mentioned on p.343 of H.Corrino, but what ? ???

10. TALIGARI - ?

11. HAGAL - known for blue/green quartz. (crystal crest ?)

12. TERANOS - ?

13. DYVETZ - ?

14. CANIDAR - maple leaf ? ;)

15. NOVEBRUNS - ?

16. VENETTE - ?

Unfortunately most of the houses named in the books don't match the list in the Dune Encyclopedia. Shame... >:( >:( >:(

Maybe Brian Herbert will release his 'fabled' Dune Concordance soon. (hint) ;D

Harkonnen- blue and orange.

"He gave a hand signal to

his guard, and a servant above them dipped the Harkonnen orange

pennant over the box--once, twice, three times--signal for a

fete."

-During the Harko Arena scene with Feyd in the first book.

"The Baron moved down the length of the hall with that pecu-

liar waddling-glide imparted by the necessities of guiding sus-

pensor-hung weight. His jowls bobbed up and down; the suspensors

jiggled and shifted beneath his orange robe. Rings glittered on

his hands and opafires shone where they had been woven into the

robe."

-When he greeted the count before the fights. I take this to suggest

that the orange part of the Harkonnen Standard is the "royal" part.

good list man, you actually have a good amount, I used to know a few more of them but have yet to figure more out. I think it is kinda unanswerable in many cases because frank herbert never mentioned many of the house colors besides the major players in Dune. The prequels have even gotten some of the things in the crests wrong. the DE is not considered cannon by most so it really is a mystery, unless you trust either the prequels or the DE. I actually like the ones from the DE and think they make sense, although I think ones like the harkonnen crest were done wrong in it.
