"Even if dogs were extremely stupid, they would still avoid such attack if not for placing to much trust in human nature"

Remember to separate the different parts of the brain. A dog's computational powers are not brilliant, but its capacity to form instinctual links, producing the 'loyalty' effect we see is often mistaken for intelligence.

"Maybe it is just by good luck that dogs were considered likeable enough by humans to become freinds "

A wolf's pack-instinct was malleable enough to be used by humans to gain a proto-dog's trust, and use it to protect herds, essentially by convincing the proto-dog that the human is an ally (by behaving like one of its pack members, helping it, and giving of the right pheremones).

I must assume that this statement is in response to the qouted statement for obvious reasons, and thus it seems to me that are you suggesting that dogs are so stupid that if not for instinct they would remain still despite a brick being thrown. Either that or you're simply saying that dogs do not place trust in human nature by considering how trustworthy humans are but rather by instinct. True, but even humans are forced to do such a thing when it comes to ''first contact'':D (I'm not saying that dogs are intelligent, just making a statement)

I suppose this provided a beggining and a reason for humans to ''like'' dogs in general due to the usefullness of other canine species....

Oh, sorry, I think I'd put the wrong quotation in or something.

This is more what I meant.
