For most people who know me, it's no secret I'm a "hardcore" Intel and Nvidia fan. I do appreciate the situation of people concerning the costs to run a Intel based system in comparison of AMD based systems. It's a shame really...

Btw, the price for the Asus P4C800 deluxe isn't $280,-. This board is the same as I have now and I'm running it with a Intel P4 3.06Ghz with 800FSB. Here's a link to compare the price for that motherboard.

hmm well for the same price as an AMD 3000+ w FSB333 i can get a P4 2.6 FSB800- disregarding the price for the new mobo (im running an amd presently- but i probly would have got a new one in anycase..)

which do u think will run faster? im guessing the P4 w its 800FSB lol..

Just check the links I presented earlier, both processors are in there ;)

4, however, remember that dimms on the new dual ddr boards need to be used in pairs. So if you want 512Mb of Ram, you need two dimms of DDR400 ram (preferably with CL 2 or 2.5 !!!!)

eh?? so i have to get new ram as well if i want the DDR400??

whats CL2/2.5?can i put for exaple two CL2s and two CL2.5s in?

512MB 184Pin DIMM PC2700 DDR RAM Non-Parity CL2.5

Mfr code: CT6464Z335

Quicklinx: 28PJWS

512MB 184PinDIMM PC2700DDRRAM ECC Unbuffered CL2.5

Mfr code: CT6472Z335

Quicklinx: 2LGRWS

which looks better do u think?

You can put CL2 and CL 2.5 together, but for better performance and especially stability, use the same type of ram. CL stands for CAS Latency. To put if very simple, the lower the the latency is, the less "lag" you're data transfer will experience (mind you, were talking about nanosecs here). However, CL 2 or 2.5 gives better overclocking oppertunities. Especially with that Asus motherboard, which you can let overclock automaticly. As an example, with CL 3 modules, you can't overclock more then 5% - 10%. However, with CL2 or 2.5 I've been able to overclock up to 30% (max). This overclocking is easily done in the BIOS. You just select the % you want your PC to be overclocked and the BIOS will automaticly set the individual parameters (make sure you have proper cooling if you're going to overclock 20% or more).

Personally I wouldnt choose RAM modules with ECC (Error Correction Code). ECC means that a module has extra error transmission checking. Non-parity means that it has no Cycle Redundancy Check (CRC). Nothing that important.

Looking at the above, you're going for 2 modules of 512mb ?

Registerd RAM can also give you a performance boost I thought ?

I read somewhere that it may be better ram if you use office applications. Don't ask me why though, cause I don't know.

i will probably get 2 modules of 512 ram cuz its so cheap. but will i have to get new ram (and replace the current ram i have) if i want the DDR400 or will a new mobo just sort that out?

i will try to find out what CL my ram is. if is 2.5 or abouve then i may just sell it and get new ram anyway....

Yes, that's DDR400 (400 stands for 400Mhz).

I do not know about price differences in other countries, but I personally find it worth the money.

DDR400 is faster, in some cases it a lot faster, especially if you make sure it has CL2 or 2.5. Remember, if you're going for a dual DDR board (like the Asus) you'll need two modules !
