DukeLeto Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 I have the Windows95 compatable version (the one with upgraded XvT-like graphics) of Tie Fighter by LucasArts. The first time I play after installing it, it runs fine. But after I quit and try to go back in, it tells me I need to install DirectX 5.2. The thing is, I have DirectX 9.0a.Attached is my DXdiag.I have tried comapatability mode, no luck.[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
Andrew Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 when you go into the game for the first time, try disabling the sound then exit and reopen the game.I figure some older games have problems with sound.Thats all I can think of.(although if it were a sound oriented problem, I would recomend VDMsound to open the game...but we should see what others think.
DukeLeto Posted July 3, 2003 Author Posted July 3, 2003 Yes, but the game is designed for 95/98, so it's not that old.And the sound in the game works fine. :-
number6 Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 Have you checked the lucastarts website for a patch to the game? There are 2 patches, one for Tie Fighter:http://support.lucasarts.com/patches/tie.htmand one for Tie Fighter (Xwing collectors CDROM):http://support.lucasarts.com/patches/tie-xcs.htmYou could try those. You may also want to play around with the compatability mode settings for the program.
DukeLeto Posted July 4, 2003 Author Posted July 4, 2003 Grr...Star Wars: TIE Fighter (Windows 95/98 version)NOTE: Not supported for use with the Windows XP Operating System. We have determined through customer input along with LEC testing that the game experiences various incompatibilities which cannot be resolved by means of standard troubleshooting. From here: http://support.lucasarts.com/trg/xp/x-wingcollect.htmOK, I am NOT happy right now. >:(
number6 Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Have you tried compatability mode settings on XP yet for this game? I seem to remember gob posting a link in a previous thread about this.Found it.Here is the thread :http://www.dune2k.com/forum/?board=4;action=display;threadid=8137;start=msg123789#msg123789And here is the story you should read:http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,427215,00.asp
