If I'm not mistaken, the mouse should also work without the drivers. The only thing then is that you may not be able to use all the buttons (if it has more then 3).

As far as reformatting goes, I've alreday said it a million times that it's good to do once a year. However, for many people it's a hassle to re-install everything, so they just stick with a slow(er) system.

As to how, I don't want to clutter this forum with sticky topics :)
