My Scanner is a Canon CanoScan D646U.

I try to install the driver, but appear a message that says:

" The software requiered to scan images (the TWAIN driver) is not installed."

This the first time that happen. I tried to "uninstall" it(but there is no scanner driver to uninstall ???).

Obviusly, I have the scanner connected (via USB) and the power is ON, but My Pc don`t reconoigse it and appear that message.

How can I install the TWAIN driver? Help

hehe, I have basically the same scanner [ the 12something version though ] and had the same problem a few times trying to install the thing.

You get 2 CD's or so with it containing the driver and some resource programms. One of those programm's is ScanGear Did you already installed that one ? [ or any other besides the driver ]

When you plugin the scanner Windows should recornise new hardware [ if you already had that screen it won't appear a second time and you need to use the ad new hardware wizard in you controle panel. The scanner will be in the list of unknow or conflicting devices I thought ]. Continue the wizard and let it search for drivers by itself [ if you selct them the are likely to be wrong, with me that was then :- ]. It will find them, probably on the B CD and in another language then English, Spanish in my case. Just install them and reboot. Don't forget the reboot part, it is and always will be Windows. [if you'r scanner drivers and/or software is installed now, de-install it and also don't forget to reboot ].

After that reboot [ when you have installed the driver ] you can install Canon ScanGear and some of the other applications you need. Those can be in the language of your choicing and will be ued to operate the thing. If you have installed other language drivers the only message you will probably get in that langue is that it needs 1 minute to warm up before it can be used sometimes.

Getting the TWAIN drivers installed can be a pain. Usually you get the wrong ones [ the ones windows doesn't find and you ahev selected ], you forget to reboot or the software using the TWAIN drivres is already installed before the drivers are and that will mess it up in some casses.

Hope it helps any, if not let us know. :)

ok, could you click on the unknow device that is your scanner, troubleshoot it and then it will probably say it needs the drivers. Let it search for the drivers on the CD.

Does it find them on it and them give an error while trying to install them, or can't Windows find any drivers at all on the CD ?

If you can't find any you could try these although any possible driver on the suplied CD would be preferable.

If it gives an error trying to install the drivers it finds on the CD, which Windows version are you using ?

If Win2K or WinXP make shure that driver signing [ you get get it by right clicking on this computer and then look for it at the tab hardware ] is turned off. If Win98 or Win2K / WinXP and the above didn't help could you attach a DirectX file in your next post and describe where in the installation process you get that error message ?

That's Win98 right ?

The screen that's visible on your screenshot is that of the software that came with the scanner. Before you can install that software the scanner needs drivers for it to work. Don't worry, they are on the same CD as the software. [ when you place in the CDrom it will probably show the install screen by itself as it is on autorun. Just click cancel or no and follow the instructions below. :)

This is a online how-to [ sort of ] how you can install new drivers with Win98.

Mind that the device in your case would be the scanner located with the yellow question mark in the device managers tab. For the location you can select the CDrom drive and place the CD that came with your scanner in your CDrom drive. After you have installed the drivers for it you will need to reboot and then you can install the software from the cd that is shows on your screenshot.

If you already thried that but didn't work, where did it go wrong ?

Couldn't it find the dirvers or did it install drivers but still gave you that error ?
