Andrew Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 My friend can not open a file she was using to study with. It is a Word Perfect 9 file that when opened doesn't really open and says file may be corrupt or in use.Any help or suggestions to get it working? any file converters to convert file? I tried microsoft works to open it but it wasnt able to.The file is zipped (so I could post it).Any help is appreciated.Corel.com was no help to me as of yet.[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
gryphon Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 Did she password save it last time or dit her computer crash while she was working with it last time ?I could read the code without any problem here, just don't have a version of WP installed where I am now. I'll check it tomorrow and see if it gives me the same error.
Andrew Posted April 13, 2003 Author Posted April 13, 2003 She didnt password protect it, and if she did it should ask for her password right? (but it doesnt)I can see the coding also in other word processors. The computer may have been shutdown improperly.Doesnt word perfect make backups of open files? if so where can I find them?
gryphon Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 Yep, it should ask for the password, although you never know.Euh. . .. it safed them in euh .. .. :- :-[ . . try lookin gin the WP directory.. think they are there somewhere. Besides that, next time you start WP directly [ not by opening a document ] it asks if [ there are any not properly safed files ] you want to use the draft unsaved version at that time.
gryphon Posted April 14, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 Sorry, couldn't open it with a normal Word Pefect client or MS-Office.I don't know what release you have used to make it, Correl WP or some other.Mayby you could email their tech-support and ask if they have any solutions to problems like these. Think they are almost certain to have a programm to fix it. You should be supprised what MS is able to extract from encrypted and crashed Windows files, so it's hard to emagine any company distributing WP isn't able to do the same.
Terror Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 Unfortunately i do not have Word Perfect installed, does anyone else have it so they could test this?
gryphon Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 Andrew IM'ed me on the day of the test [ a few days back ]. They didn't manage to encode the file and as the test has been taken by now decoding it is no longer of any relevance.Just hoped the test went ok and she doesn't need it for any re-exame ;) :-Wasn't this topoic locked ?Well, now it is.
