Nyarlathotep Posted November 4, 2001 Author Posted November 4, 2001 From another post:"I had the problem with crashes for some time. I had tried contacting westwood technical support or searching through forums, but found no solution. I have msi 6330 mainboard and geforce2 mx400 graphics card. After a long time I have finally found solution myself and I'd like to post it in case any other user has the same problem. Upgrading mainboard BIOS to version 3.1 (it can be downloaded from msi page, www.msi.com.tw) solved the problem with Emperor, it also helped with Red Faction & 3DMark2001. I hope this will be helpful to someone."(Thanks Domek !)Nyar...

Guest Andy Maclean Posted November 5, 2001 Posted November 5, 2001 Hey Nyarlathotep,Do you think you could give me your email address so that I can send you my EAsy_EA.txt for you to check out. I've tried most things but I can only get on the net on my PC at home on my mobile so its a nightmare. My email is "andymaclean@btinternet.com".Thanks-Andy-
Guest DD-BattleMover Posted November 5, 2001 Posted November 5, 2001 Belive me, Nyar - I've tried everything that is mentioned - and then some!!! But in all honesty, I keep getting a nagging feeling that Westwood hasn't done their best with this one - I've bought over 300 games in the last 3 years and this is the first one to lock-up. Which is strange as the game will play at a fast speed and shows that my Pentium2 can still handle the most demanding game, yet it suffers from a lockup which are supposed to be left in the days of MS-DOS...and even though I program DirectX myself, I can't think of any reason why it would lockup at all.
Guest MaNtdune Posted November 6, 2001 Posted November 6, 2001 Hi, i am having problems with the freezing thing in only multiplayer games, If i play one mostly the first goes okay, if i play a second one ARGHZ it freezes. that not only is the problem. if i played emperor and i returned back to windows (2000) my windows freezes too, it isn't always at the same time but it always freezes at some time. i have some restarts also. I am getting on my nerves, i have emperor for 2 months i think but the last 2 weeks the freezing thing is getting more and more. I am from holland i speak a bit english.Help me please

Nyarlathotep Posted November 6, 2001 Author Posted November 6, 2001 Caca, turning on shadows is a nag for most users. It's not related just to the Voodoo. Turning on shadows will slow down most systems. There's not much I/we can do about it.Sorry bud...Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 6, 2001 Author Posted November 6, 2001 MaNtdune, Just multiplayer huh ? Please provide some more info on what system you use. And are you talking about multiplayer online, or via LAN ?If it's via LAN, please be so kind to copy your e-report in here (also the e-report for the other comp if problem is via LAN).btw, I'm from Holland too :DNyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 6, 2001 Author Posted November 6, 2001 BattleMover, programming directX yourself ? ehh... care to explain that ? ???Not to doubt your programming skills, but you have some weird things showing up in your e-report. Please try to install directX without any self programming, otherwise it'll be hard troubleshooting as I'm no programmer...Nyar...

Nyarlathotep Posted November 7, 2001 Author Posted November 7, 2001 MaNtdune, If you can, please copy your e-report in here. Looking at what you've stated, it looks like a connectivity problem. Guest DD-BattleMover Posted November 7, 2001 Posted November 7, 2001 (Jesus-H-Christ....) I didn't mean that I program my ENTIRE operating system...I just make my own computer games when I get bored!!! DirectX is a programming tool to make games - you can't alter DirectX itself!!! I install the latest version just like every other user...crikey, to mess around with DirectX you need over a hundred MicroSoft staff! What I mean't is - I know a thing or two about making a directX game and that any descent DirectX product should be free of these lockups and that It should be linked only to a programming error that should be fixed a patch...It's Westwood's fault!!!Still, I have to say thank you for your hardwork Nyar - 20 pages is alot of hardwork! I'm sure I speak for everyone else on this message board. Oh, about my processer - the game will run at a blinding speed at lowest detail - I just need to max out my memory to 384MB...that'll stop the computer 'disk-swapping' and free up 25% of the CPU's time...still I'll see if I can find the solution by asking westwood again...Cheers anyway, Nyar.
Nyar...
Guest Caca Posted November 8, 2001 Posted November 8, 2001 Nyar, thanks you for helping (i mean it, it's not an joke), but i know it gets slow. I won't use it in multiplayer, i just to enjoy the full 3d power of emperor. The funny thing is that i can't even turn off the shadows... That's is one problem, the other is that it get stuck sometimes. I believe is more the via chipset audio devic e that i have. Does any of you have an via chpset and have problems?LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!!!
Guest rajzor Posted November 8, 2001 Posted November 8, 2001 Caca, I have a VIA chipset too and I´m having BIG problems playing. Especially multiplayer. Single is playable, at least in WinME. In XP it crashes even sooner. I think it also could be caused by the onboard audio, because it sometimes goes off after a crash. Only resetting the BIOS restores audio functions. But a BIOS problem is also probable. I have a VIA motherboard on a HP Pavilion pc.
Nyarlathotep Posted November 8, 2001 Author Posted November 8, 2001 rajzor, you should be able to upgrade your BIOS no matter what components you have in your comp. Only thing is, you probably will see changes when Windows boots up again, cause it might find new stuff, due to the BIOS upgrade.I'm glad that WW replied to your cry for help. Let me know how it's progressing.Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 8, 2001 Author Posted November 8, 2001 Caca, thank you for the kind words, always good to read :)Nyar...
Guest rajzor Posted November 8, 2001 Posted November 8, 2001 He, leuk, Nederlands. Er zullen wel wat mensen zijn die dat niet leuk vinden.About my problem: WW has finally responded in a good way. I now need to send my Easy_EA file and the dxdiag file. Then they will respond ASAP. How about that. But I really think/hope now that my BIOS has something to do with the problem. As it got changed after some crashes. I also saw someone fix the problem by updating the BIOS. I also know it probably has something to do with 3D, as Domek quoted by Nyar, 3DMark2001 also gave me a desktop crash.Updating my BIOS is a bit of a problem, unfortunately. As my pc has a 'tailormade' (a bit overdone, but in someway describing it) BIOS, fit for this configuration. HP does give an update, but it´s only for older pcs. And Phoenix tells me to go to the manufacturer, so... I can of course give it a try with a Phoenix update, but I haven´t got a clue if it suits my system. Also I don´t know what happens if it goes all wrong and if then I can easily return to the previous BIOS. Maybe someone has any suggestions?
Guest MaNtdune Posted November 8, 2001 Posted November 8, 2001 nyar i'll start in dutch so i can explain it better.het volgende probleem doet zicht voort, als ik een multiplayer spel speel of gespeeld heb loopt of emperor of windows vastik heb fast adsl van xs4all.
Guest Caca Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 Nyar, don't worry, is my obligation to say thanks...But i already have the 4.34 version of the VIA drivers. By the way, I have a SOYO motherboard, and the Via chipset audio device, don't know if that helps. Here is the easy.txt, but because I live in Chile, South America, is in spanish, but you can compare it with your. Thanks a lot anywayLONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!!!!!!By the way, I only have systray and explorer when i play emperor...----Resumen del Sistema-------------------------------------- Controlador Video : 3dfx Voodoo3 Controlador Video : 3dfx16v3.drv Versi
Nyarlathotep Posted November 11, 2001 Author Posted November 11, 2001 Caca, did you try the suggestions ? On page 18 you'll find a summary. You have a lot of background programs running, do you close them before you start playing ? You said it sometimes locks up. Could you be a bit more precise, like during campaign, skirmish or when you play online ?btw, I do understand a little bit of Spanish... very little :)Nyar...

Guest Caca Posted November 12, 2001 Posted November 12, 2001 Ok. Let's be precise. My lock.up problem is not presice. I thought that after a week without lock-ups, even after playing 4 hours each day, nothing. Sometimes it may take 3 minutes to lock.up. The music goes on, but the video don't... I don't know what the h%$&ll is going on! And I only run Emperor with Explorer and systray...Thanks a lot anyway, 800 replies, that's sure a lot!LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!!!!!!
Guest rajzor Posted November 12, 2001 Posted November 12, 2001 Radar, maybe your prob isn´t too difficult.First, you have only directx 2? Doens´t Emperor ask you when you install it, to update directx to version 8!!!???2nd and last, your cpu could be a bit too slow, although I was able to play it on a PII 350.About my prob:I found a program called 'Application Compatibility Toolkit' (Microsoft) when I was looking for WinXP tweaking tools. In there is a program called 'Application verifier' that runs in the background and checks what happens when you run a certain application. I tested it on Emperor of course. I think it made some interesting remarks helpful in solving or at least knowing the cause of my crashes (which I sent to WW). And finally, although I have only tried it 3 times, that program made me able to play even internet games.Isn´t that great??? But I´d still like em to retrieve the cause.En Nyar, over een LAN game, kun je me een keer mailen wanneer je zin hebt?? Mijn adres staat hierboven neem ik aan...
