Well my EASy thingy realy aint that easy.

my pc locks up when i try to use it. :(

Considering the fact that it's not just EBFD that locks up, did you upgrade drivers and such ? Try to run dxdiag, see if that works. Save the output and paste it in here. At least that way we have some info on your system and might be able to assist. Also summerize what you've done so far to resolve it...

Please post your e-report here, it'll give us more insight on what you have.

Also, try the suggestions in this thread, I know it's a lot of reading, but who knows, the solution might be there. :)

Also summerize what you've done so far.

Diablo, where did you get your SoundBlaster Live driver from? I though I had Creative's latest driver off of their site.

So I guess we can savely say the Nvidia driver is not an issue (except when it's country specific :) ).

First thing I noticed when I compared Dune01's SBLive! driver details with Diablo's, is that Diablo is having a newer driver:

Dune01:

Sound Card : Creative SB Live!

Sound Driver : emu10k1.vxd

Driver Version : 4.11.01.0711

Diablo:

Sound Card : Creative SB Live! Value

Sound Driver : emu10k1.vxd

Driver Version : 4.12.01.0905

I do not know if it's due to the fact that Diablo is having a Value edition and Dune01 doesn't (or at least, it doesn't show). But it's worth to find out...

Can Anyone help me out there? I have read all messages and it looks like i am another victim with the lock-up issue.

I have a v6800 with soundblaster Live 1024. Game runs perfectly for 3-5 minutes and then suddenly stalls. Hard reboot necessary, Windows keeps scanning harddisk, a time consuming activity.

I have tried all updates, new drivers, cachemanager etc. etc. The moment of crashing varies from game to game, but eventually I am always ****ed.

King

I was not sure where this link would lead me to, so I checked it out. Ofcourse I have checked this page over and over, but it does not help me out in any way.

It is easy to point at via and sb-live for the cause of these problems, but in the end I have a sh*tload of games playing ok with this combination.

I think it is time for patch #9 to solve this issue.

By the way, I have a AMDK7 with v6800, sblive, directX8.0a all with the newest drivers installed. I have the feeling that this is the utmost not wanted combination for EmperorBFD.

Hope to hear some interesting tips or receive the workaround patch. I don't think Westwood should wait for Creative and Via to take the first step.

rgrds,

King L.

OK, I disabled the audio driver and level 2 of Harkonnen campaign finally did not crash. However the third level the problem arose once again.

Anyone ideas? I think there are more problems than only SB Live! The latter is critical but also other issue play a role here.

Please help!

I e-mailed tech support, and they replied with this:

I've been to that page many many MANY times, and nowhere on that page does it help me with my problem.

I am running a non-Via and a MX300 and have the same lockup problem in Win2k. I also have updated to all the latest drivers. I even tried an older SB16 that resulted in the same lockup.

I did the jump through e-mail hoops with WW only to have my trouble ticket deleted without ever having my problem solved.

MrShadow, try to assign a IRQ just to your GeForce. You can try to change it in device manager (start/settings/control panel/system/and then select the tab device manager). Another option would be to assign an IRQ to VGA in your BIOS.

Let me know if you succeed.

Nyar...

I tried to change the "SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus" but it tells be that IRQ 11 is the only one it can use.

Nope, and it looks like VIA stuff is using a lot of them.

If help is needed from th board members here in this post, please copy your e-report here so that we might be able to cross reference it. Also useful would be a summary of what you've tried so far.

Nine12, I hope they're able to solve it ! :D

Kinglowie, I'm running the game with a SBLive! Value and it works well for me. I do not have the VIA chipset though, so I can't check that combo. Also, I've seen statements that the game didn't run on a GeForce 3 => that's not true. I'm the owner of a Asus v8200 GeForce 3 and the game runs fine.

However, considering the fact that there are many users who HAD the problem (lot's solved), it has to be a combo of SB and VIA.

I'll try to dig in to it, but need more info on your system, so a e-report would be helpful (as said in my prevous post).

You alos mention that the the game locks up when you disable the SBLive! drivers, but locks up again later in the game ?

If so, try to remove the SBLive! and uninstall the drivers. See if the game still locks up on you.

Nyar & all,

I just wanted to add my recent experience with the game & configuration in case it can help anyone else on the board.

Anyway I had a problem where the game was locking on the 2nd to last mission in Campaign Mode as Artiedes (It was the Ordos Homeworld one).

So I first wanted to check Matrox's site for possibly a driver update. Then I read a thread about EBFD problems....

http://forum.matrox.com/mgaforum/Forum10/HTML/003139-2.html

Check out what bjergand's message. He has in AGP Aperature @ 256 and no Video Shadow in BIOS configuration either. Game settings are Shadows off, 1024x768 @32bit, and all other settings at maximum.

So I decided to try his setup, and it fixed the lockup for me. Recall that the game completely locked on me before at any AGP Aperature setting above 16meg. So far I haven't tried any other settings with the BIOS Video Shadow off, but I may experiment in that area to see what happens.

I'm gonna try going through the other campaigns to see what happens with this setup, but some of you might want to give those settings a run with your rigs.
