Well I have a 700mhz amd athlon, geforce 1, 256 ram, 20gb hard drive, 19inch screen running at 1024 x reso, directx 9 and have updated all dune's patches. I have nothing running in background and have never had trouble till now, kinda a freak inncident.

Well here is problem and happens about 50% of the time today.

I join a multiplayer game or make one myself.

Everyone Accepts and Just as First Load Screen Activates it Freezes withing 10 seconds or so. Now if it doesnt freeze during this time I am fine. I had all graphic setts on low and tried varying setts only to come to this 50% freeze 50% work state again.

When it does work nothing is changed from previous attempts all my setting changes may work once but fail some other time.

I just downloaded the new directx9 in hopes it would do something but it didnt, I think I may have to reinstall Dune. Ill reinstall tomorrow I guess if you can't get back to me.

Thanks.

You never had this problem in multiplayer before or has this always happened in multi? Do you have firewall software running? Are you using dial-up or broadband connection? If broadband are you using an ethernet card? Sorry I have more questions than answers at this point.

Yes number6 this has never happened to me before. I have a cable connection with 3 others using the same cable connection, my internet runs fine when all 3 are using connection and I can play some games sometimes. Umm I have no firewall running in background.

I just unistalled emperor and I am currently installing it anew and going to update it again.

Any idea's as to what went or is wrong?

When it worked before, did you also then shared the internet connection ? If not, it might be that others were using the connection as well when you tried to play. Let us know how things went after the re-install.

Well here's the situation.

I reinstalled game. Same freezing has occured.

I changed the resolution to 800 by 600 both with the options in my computer and the dune game. It has worked 5 times in a row now. Im thinking it is fixed but I still need to have a few games to see if it is actually fixed.

Umm Ill keep you updated if it freezes again.

Thanks.

Man.....

Well I would love to say I fixed it somehow but I didn't. After running smoothly for about 6 games It froze again. I don't know what info I can provide that I havent already but I am running Win 98 and yes my dune worked fine untill I started sharing with 2 others running off the same cable connection but mind you that my internet and logging on and every other internet function works fine when we are all connected at the same time and I do get good games going every now and then but it still frooze about 2 mins ago when I hosted a game. As I pressed play and it tried to connect within 5 secs it froze...

Any idea's?

Try to stop sharing the conn. for a while to test things. I think it's because when you try to play, others are using the connection as well. It might be that the data from you doesn't get passed right back to you, which causes the lockup.

How do you share your connection, like with what equipment ?

Ok Nyar I got it finally! I fixed it!

The problem I was using a cable connection with two others. The router somehow made it so I couldn't play ANY online games. Once I connected the cable connection directly to my computer all problems ceased. Now the only minor annoyance is I have to connect it directly to my computer each time I play online cause the other computers can't be hooked up to internet cause I'm thinking the router is possibly setting up a firewall or like you said, information is not being passed correctly.

Thanks for all your help you are a pretty smart guy and led me to eventually finding this out.

Thanks Again Dude! :D :D

Are you allowed by your provider to hook up more then 1 pc to your internet connection ? If so, they might be able to help you in setting up your router correctly. I know with my provider, they give you extra IP addresses, which you can assign to any exrta pc you hook up :)
