Martin Luther King's Progeny

It was funny in a way that only a greek playwrite would understand. a very dark and melancholic anecdote I guess. These two black boys at the local highschool here thought of a way to venerate MLK's life. It sounds decent right? Well its how they performed their giving thanks. They decided to give a speech in ebonics. I wonder what Pastor King would think; Striving for blacks to be equally educated and respected by all. All these two kids could do is give a half baked oratory in ebonics.

That is pretty darn messed up in my opinion.

Another rant finished.

MLK was just such a great man...I think he'd be delighted that civil rights have gotten so good that the youngsters of society can take racial differences with such light-hearted humour.

IMO, satire (or lack thereof) is a very good indicator of culture. IE you won't see very much satire about Jew/Muslim relations in Palestine. At least not on the Muslim side. And you won't see satire of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, but in western society the politicians are fair game. Such as a British commercial I saw in Manchester that featured a computer-animated Tony Blair singing and dancing to the tune of "You Sexy Thing". Or one of my personal favourites, a show here in Canada that features a segment where they take portraits of infamous news figures and blast the portraits with a device called "The Chicken Cannon." It's basicaly a big air gun that usually uses rubber chickens as ammunition, but they often choose materials that are appropreate for the "victim". For bush they used a variety of stuff that include oil. For Canadian P.M. Jean Cretien they used an English pronounciation dictionary.

It's just refreshing to live in a place where that can be done.
