marz_1982
Had problems installing Emperor on the comp until I changed the CDrom and it seemed to be working fine. Loaded the game - everything was perfect until I started actually playing a game. The game would run for a few seconds, and then either crash to windows, or lock up. I've tried two different drivers - Nvidia and the Asus drivers, with Nvidia being the more stable of the two (obviously). I've also tried changing resolution to 640X600 and 800X400, colours to 16 bit or 32 bit, changing the detail of the game to extreme low and extreme high - nothing really makes a difference either way. Could it be the memory or the processor?? Any help greatly appreciated!
Nyarlathotep
Could you please attach your dxdiag ? Go to start => run and type there dxdiag. Click the "Save all info" button and save it as a txt file. When done, attach it to your reply here.
marz_1982
Sorry, I tried to attach it but it obviously didn't go through. Found out what the problem was though - disabled sound and it seemed to work okay. Dxdiag says that my 'sound drivers aren't digitally signed' or something like that. I've got a SB vibra 128, with the latest drivers installed that I could find (2001, but that's all that creative supplied so I assume they're okay.) I've also got an Asus TNT2 Magic video card with 32MB Ram - I see someone else posted a while ago, who had a problem with the TNT2 chip as well. I suppose I'll just have to play without sound until I either upgrade my video card or my sound card. Forking out R500 (around $100 equivalent) for a new sound card is not an option tho - I'd rather use it for a new video card. Computer hardware is a little expensive in South Africa :( I'll send the dxdiag text file a little later on.

marz_1982
Hi Nyar,Fiddled around with the settings on the comp, and it stopped working. Changed them back to the original settings, and then the game decided that everything is fine and ran smoothly. *Sigh* I've only finished a skirmish, and the first campaign mission, but I had no hang ups, not even a jitter. :) Let's just hope it stays that way! Still don't know what I did to get it to work!Anyway, it's looking damn cool even compared to Warcraft 3, and much smoother too. Woohoo....Thanks for your attention, in any case! I'll get back to you if it decides to change it's mind! ;)

marz_1982
Not so happy, played the second campaign mission, and it froze on me, with the music carrying on playing.... Looks like I've got the same thing happening that the others had - can play the skirmish games, but not the campaign. Any way to get it to work short of buying a new video card??I'll try again just now with sound disabled, see if that works.
marz_1982
Ahah, figured out how to get it to work, *with* sound and even some medium detail to boot! I set the display colours to 256 (it looks okay even with less colours) and can turn everything to medium except for shadows - if I turn that on, everything freezes. I assume it'll be fine now, I've already been through a couple of missions and not a single hitch.... touch wood. Thanks for the advice you've given in this forum, Nyar, it's helped a lot. :)
