Like I say to one of my best friend (Zamboe to not name him - Yo! Zamboe ;) ) and the best player I know (before was Cocolizo but coco - Hey Coco! :P tell me Zamboe is better that him), I'm tired about to hear all kind of things (false or not) about Map Pack.

So I told him I will write something about on dune2k to try to help people for who it's not clear. :O

1- Definition:

What is a map pack exactly ?

A Map Pack contain new maps create by Westwood. These maps are OFFICIAL maps. So they are recognize by Westwood and all REAL fan of Emperor.

They are for now six (6) Map Pack. When you install Emperor and the last patch 1.09, Map Pack #1 and 2 are already installed. So they stay four (4) Map Pack to install.

2-Here the four (4) Map Pack (4 zip files) and what they contain.

1) EMPEROR_MAP3.zip

2) EMPEROR_MAP4.zip

3) EMPEROR_MAP5.zip

4) EMPEROR_MAP6.zip

IMPORTANT NOTE

The Dune2k site call these Map Pack:

EmperorMapPack1.zip

EmperorMapPack2.zip

EmperorMapPack3.zip

EmperorMapPack4.zip

But they are same files than Westwood.

Personaly for me I find more logical how Westwood call them.

:P

--------------- End of readme.txt Map Pack #6 --------------------

Note:

To install them you need a program like Winzip cause you need unzipped these files. :O

3- It is important to install these files in order ?

Yes and no in same time. ???

If you install all these files (4) it's not important. Just you can see that each zip files contain all a file with the name "readme.txt". So when you will unzip these files just one

will be write on the X:WESTWOODEMPERORDATA folder (*).

Or you can unzip each in separate folder, rename the readme.txt file for each and move all

in X:WESTWOODEMPERORDATA. (*)

But each of this readme.txt file are similar. To resume them they say to unzip all map pack in the following folder:

X:WESTWOODEMPERORDATA

(*) where X: is the letter where you have installed Emperor. Normally the letter C: .

But you CAN'T (so in a point of view order is important) installed just the Map Pack # 6 for example without to have installed other before it.

The reason is simple. Suppose you have just installed Emperor and the last patch 1.09.

So you have in the X:WESTWOODEMPERORDATA folder just the map pack #1 and 2.

So if you installed after that the map pack #6, Emperor will not see map pack #3, 4, 5. So it will not work.

But sure you can installed for example Map pack #3 and #4. Order here have not importance.

Just again only one readme.txt file will be write (the other will be overwrite).

But I suggest you strongly to install ALL map pack and to conserved them in a special folder in case you need reinstall Emperor a day. So you will not need to download them again.

Better, BURN them on CDs. :P

4- Where I can obtain these fabulous files ? ::)

Where they are three (3) place I know but sure you can find other. Just these three place are safe.

1) on Westwood of course;

2) on dune2k;

3) on emperor-network

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Westwood call these Map Pack, Map Pack #3, 4, 5 and 6. But dune2k call them Map Pack #1, 2, 3 and 4. So don't be confuse cause they are same files.

4.1 Westwood site

Note:

If you want all Map Pack from Westwood you must go on the FTP server. Cause just there where ALL Map Pack are.

1- Go to the following URL: http://westwood.ea.com

2- On top in about the middle choice the tab "SITEMAP".

3- In about middle of the screen choice under "DOWNLOADS" the FTP Server item.

4- Double click on the "pub" folder

5- Double click on the "emperor" folder

6- Yes you don't dream. They are there. And sure if you are curious you can look other stuff too. :P

4.2 Dune2K site

1- Go to the following URL: http://www.dune2k.com

2- On your right you see "TOP FILES" and below all Map Pack.

Just remember again that dune2K call them #1, 2, 3, 4 but Westwood call them #3,4,5 and 6.

But they are the same files.

Hey if you don't have again the last patch 1.09 it's time to download it too. 8)

4.3 Emperor.net site

1- Go to the following URL: http://www.emperor-network.com

2- On your left search the "DOWNLOADS" menu. Choice "Maps". Map Pack are there.

Note

If you choice this site maybe you will not be able to download the Map Pack #6. :-

Don't ask me for what I don't know. I'm not the Webmaster of this site sorry.

5- General Note

To ALL players who like and/or love really Emperor I HOPE you will download all these Map Pack and so we can play on more different maps and not just "Knife Fight" or "Fishers Plain".

I don't find these map bad just I find it's good to try other things for other strategy.

If you have question well just write here and I will try respond to you.

Have a Emperor day !
