in Dune 2, Westwood uses a seed number to generate a map. I guess they have a random map generator using the seed number as a fixed input. So if you enter a seed number, you will always get the same map with the same number.

For Dunedit i used the seed number , then tried to cover all of the map and extract the information (with a program Olaf made once) from a savegame, then convert the output to a Dunedit map and so i created the seed-files. A seed file is nothing more then the actual output of a seed number, generated by Dune 2 itself.

Seed files are used in Dunedit to know where rock, sand, spice and cliffs are.
