GameSpot has just released news of a patch for Dune 2000! Thats right, an early Christmas gift from Westwood. The patch is currently available only if you logon to the Westwood servers through the ingame client but downloadable versions should be out soon. So what does it add? Well ten maps and new terrain features are included, NO MAP EDITOR!, and each House receives some new units. I will have some more info in a few minutes once I try it out, in the meantime, check out the GameSpot report:

A Westwood spokesperson told GameSpot News that the next time gamers are looking to play Dune 2000 on Westwood Online can start downloading a new patch beginning tonight.

The 1.5 MB expansion pack adds ten new multiplayer maps with new terrain features like bridges, statues, and deserted villages and three new units (one per house). While there currently isn't any official announcement about the specifications of the new features, Westwood will be adding data to its web site on Thursday or Friday.

House Atreides will gain a anti-personnel grenade tosser called the Grenadier, House Harkonnen will gain the ability to build new elite infantry called Sardaukar, and House Ordos will gain a stealth and fast vehicle called the Stealth Raider.

Westwood decided to create the expansion after gamers repeatedly requested additional multiplayer levels after Westwood had alleviated recent Internet lag problems in the game.
