I got an email from the two guys who are making the new Dune wargame I was telling you about yesterday. The game, currently called Dune: Arrakis Conflict (10189-10193), combines a lot of things found in past Dune games and looks great from first impressions. Here is some of the features they are planning:

  • No movies due to lack of technology avail. (as of now)
  • No levels, game covers entire planet with navigational globe.
  • Goals are received time to time from commanding characters. (ex. Duke Leto Atreides, generals, etc.)
  • Basic story line will revolve around the progression of all characters and events in the first Dune book.
  • Play as a commander for one of the three houses.
  • Although it closely follows story line of Dune, we are adding many aspects from Dune 2 and Dune 2000 (ex. Ordos)
  • Count Fenring secret leader of House Ordos.
  • Baron Vladmir Harkonnen leader of Harkonnen.
  • Duke Leto Atreides leader of House Atreides.
  • Depending on rank and success, you will control an increasing number of legions.
  • Main environment based on three separate commanding windows: Full planetary view (movement of legions, territorial boundaries and base locations); regional strategic view (more detail, view of only one region/territory at a time, movement of individual regiments and base management); tactical model(for battles, RTS*).
  • Multiplay options possible but not planned yet.
  • Key characters (ex. Gurney Haleck, Duncan Idaho, Piter De Vries, etc.) will provide information from time to time.
  • Survival and capture of Arrakis in a set amount of years.
  • Title is "Dune: Arrakis Conflict (10189-10193)." (subject to change)
