Westwood has given some more information about the patch on their Support pages. Here is the caption:

We HIGHLY suggest you log in with your DUNE 2000 Internet game client to receive the free automatic update to Version 1.06 of DUNE 2000. For those of you having trouble receiving the autoupdate, we will have a downloadable version of the 1.06 patch available on Monday, December 21st.

So if you are having problems or don't have an account with Westwood come back Monday when the patch will be released to Westwood's FTP site. Thanks to Munch for pointing this out.
