I went out and bought the new Dune novel last Thursday and finished this weekend. I originally thought it wouldn't be that great, the alt.fan.dune newsgroup didn't seem to have many favourable reviews. I did enjoy it and found it interesting to learn the story of what happened before the Atreides took control of Dune and the history of Paul's father Leto. The story mainly follows the life of Leto and his adventures but it also tells of Duncan Idaho, Pardot Kynes(the one who starts to terraform Dune), the Harkonnen Baron, and the rise to power of Emperor Shaddam. It isn't like the old Dune novels by Frank Herbert but I still found it well written and worth going out to buy. Feel free to add your comments on the novel below or on the messageboard.
