Interview with Joseph Kucan

For those of you who play Command & Conquer, this is the man who plays Kane in the series. He recently completed an interview with Gamesmania in which he mentioned his latest work directing the cut scenes for Emperor: BFD with Curt Weintruab.

Did any movies inspire Kucan to give Emperor a certain look?

Joseph Kucan: I went back and looked at Dark City, The Crow and the original Dune, of course. Those are all very inspiring because they have a similar tone, and a type of look--a darkness--that we were hoping to bring to this project as well.

We briefly talked amongst ourselves about the recent release of the special edition of Dune on DVD. Then someone asked if Kucan would like to do a big Hollywood film some day, like something Spielberg might do."

Joseph Kucan: I'll tell the truth. Things comparable to Spielberg don't really interest me as a director. I don't like things that are that big in scope as a general rule. Personally, as a director and as a theatre person, I'm more interested in smaller dramas, thrillers and character-driven stories. I don't know that Titanic is a particularly character-driven story.

So now we know that Emperor is going to be done in a dark style, I hope they don't go to the extreme like Lynch did. Even he couldn't stand the movie after it was finished.
