Meatball clarified a few things in the official forum recently. This included questions on the map editor, a possible FAQ, and a demo, check them out below:

Will there be an editor? - unlikely

Will there be a demo? - unlikely

Do the developers read our posts? - mostly

When will there be a FAQ?! - shortly

In all likelihood, a full map editor will not ship with the initial release version of Emperor.

I personally believe that most publishers don't hold back from the initial release just to save up for a gold edition. They want to offer the most complete, satisfying experience as soon as possible. It's mostly a question of money/time/manpower etc. Believe me, if we could have a map builder ready for the initial release, you would all have it in your hot little hands the first day of launch!

As usual Westwood is playing the guessing game with the map editor, the last time they released one with their game was the original Red Alert back in 1996. So what are the chances we see a map editor in the initial release? I would say zero but it is still a possibility to see one after the games release, something I am sure most people want to see. The same goes for the demo, those have been just as rare. Expect an official FAQ from Westwood showing up soon though, if that's any consolation. :)
