EA Games has an interview with Chris Longpre posted on their site. It covers a number of topics and is worth checking out. Here is a clip from one of the questions:

Q: What have been the biggest challenges you've faced during the title's development?

CP: Emperor is Westwood's first venture into 3D for our RTS games, and because of that we had to make some very tough decisions on the best use of the technology. We wanted the liberal use of the camera to add to the gameplay, rather than become a burden like it has in other 3D RTS titles, so we spent a lot of time working with the camera. We had to strike that delicate balance between allowing players total control over the camera and making it easy for them to use.
