A few of you have been asking in the forums lately if there is any way to play Dune 2 in multiplayer. The answer has always been "No". But that may change soon. Mithro posted on the Dune II forum a month and a half ago about a project he was working on to make a multiplayer version of Dune 2. I recently e-mailed him asking how he was doing, and this was his reply:

I'm using source forge (www.sourceforge.net) and the project is licensed under the GPL (www.gnu.org). (Open source baby ;)

Currently i'm prototyping the game in a programming language called "python" (www.python.org) with a package called pygame (pygame.seul.org). For the time being the game is called pyDune and i've taken a lot of code from the Ultradune Project.

I plan to use the atlas network protocol for multiplier gaming. It's a main library for the worldforge project (www.worldforge.org).

Mithro is also looking for people to help him out with this project, both with the actual game and a website, which he as yet does not have. If you are interested, say so in the comments section, forum, or even e-mail me and I will set the two of you up.

Update: Check out the SourceForge for more information as well.
