Frank Herbert Didn't Like Rock Bands!

Since I seem to be getting a few people asking about the recent Fat Boy Slim song, Weapon of Choice, and it's reference, "walk without rhythm, it won't attract the worm," I thought this would interest some of you. It's taken from the Iron Maiden FAQ and is about their song To Tame a Land:

"To Tame A Land" is based on the novel "Dune" by Frank Herbert. The song was actually originally titled "Dune," and Steve wanted to use a spoken quotation from the book as the intro. Out of courtesy they applied to Herbert's agent for permission, and back the word came from Herbert: "No. Because Frank Herbert doesn't like rock bands, particularly heavy rock bands, and especially rock bands like IRON MAIDEN." Pretty narrow-minded attitude if you ask me. Even though the band thought it would be a good advertisement for the book "Dune" and everything, Frank Herbert still said no, and that *if* IRON MAIDEN went through with it, then he'd sue them into next week, etc. Bastard! :)

Well there you have it, Frank Herbert didn't like rock bands. I wonder if he would like Fat Boy Slim?... :)

Thanks to a poster on the alt.fan.dune newsgroup for pointing this out. If you are interested in listening to either of these two songs I am sure you can find them on CD at your local shop.

Also worth mentioning from the newsgroup was a posting about some Dune inspired art by Martina Pilcerova. If you can read Slovak I would also recommend checking out the actual site as the poster says it contains some good information. You can also find a few at her personal website which is in English.
