After waiting what seems like forever we finally have some good news from Westwood, check out Cliff's post from the forums below:

Hey guys, I know you've all been waiting a really long time for this, and I've got good news. Today we're hoping to release the newest patch for Emperor, 1.09, which will include support for user created maps. "User created maps?" you say? You've got that right! Next week we most likely will release the map editor for everyone to start building their own battlefields!

So watch for the patch soon and the map editor next week. No details on what the patch fixes just yet but that should be posted soon as well.
