This creates a kind of fold in spacetime. When traveled through even the furthest reaches or space can be piloted in a matter of days. Before the jihad against machines. Thinking computers calculated the tragectory of the ship through fold-space. once thinking machines and computers were destroyed in the jihad, man needed some sort of sight into the future to counterbalence all of the calculations that only an ultra advanced and thinking computer could handle. This was done by saturating a man in spice. The man would mutate into a new creature. able to see slightly into the future so that he alone could pilot ships through fold-space. eventually thinking computers were recreated so that the monopoly over space travel with the guild was broken. TMA_1 Posted July 15, 2002 Share Posted July 15, 2002 The powerplants of fold-space engines are fusion powered. Unlike what the movies show, heighliners are spherical in shape. (looks like the borg shere.) The exact speed of folding space is not mentioned. It isnt instantainous. This is impossible because there is still some sort of space-time in this alternate universe created by the fold-space engine. Read the books and it tells that it does take time. Ornithopters are powered by an actual organic muscle. It is a crustation that grows on a certain planet. About 3 feet by 2 feet by 1 foot in diameter. They cut the muscle from the shell and plant it in the ornithopter. Because all it requires to survive is air and circulation, the orni has intakes to flood the creature with air. There is an artificial circulation system in the machine as well. The only thing required for maintenence is to cut the growth of the muscle.
