Since we've been talking about the rise of anti-immigrant hysteria in Europe in another thread, here is an example of something similar... in Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv. The irony here is unbelievable. It takes a very special kind of stupidity to embrace the worldview that led to genocide against your people just a couple of generations ago.

Fortunately, their numbers appear small, no more than a few hundred. Still, it's amazing that any such people exist. The man who starts to speak at 2:17 sounds exactly like... well... you know... To say that he learned nothing from history would be a vast understatement.

There is a broader lesson to be learned here, besides the fact that every country has a few idiots: Political ideologies and movements are universal. For all the talk about "culture" and "national character" and the "clash of civilizations" and all that nonsense, the fact is that all people are the same when it comes to politics. Every culture and every nation has its fascists - yes, even the Jews, who really should know better. And every culture and nation has its conservatives, liberals, socialists and communists. Politics is universal.

Whenever a person says that people of a certain culture or nation cannot be persuaded to adopt a certain political view, that person is wrong. Any people can be persuaded of anything, if the conditions are right.

Well, whoever of them Greeks said that human is essentially a ζῷον πολιτικόν (I think it was Aristotle) hit pretty much right on :)

Heh, I sense a hint of totalitarian approach in the last sentence, although I think it wasn't intended - rather, you're trying to say that Communism can be applied anywhere if conditions are right, is that it?

BTW, glad to see ya back. It's been quite some time :)
