Hay---- those logging tycoons cut down every tree on the north side of the map.  Well there are lots of Logs in the South and Mid West.

I'm on my way to the gulf coast now.  Just connected to a meat plant.  One of two on the map.  So I can start rounding up my little doggys and shipping them off to market.  I'm now just over 5 years into the map and running about 32 trains.  I can't believe I've done no drop shipping.  Maybe that is why I'm making so much money. Ah, I shouldn't have said that.  Now the money tree will dry up and die.

As soon as I get cargo running to the gulf coast I'll pay off some bonds and start playing round with shortlines and drop shipping.  It is a fun heartland style map.  Now where are those little doggys hiding.

Louisiana & Mississippi were HUGE lumber states during the 19th century so I thought I would leave the north more of a farmer/industrial area (although it isn't overflowing with industry).

Yeah, maybe I didn't put in enough trees up north....

Myself - I got lucky when I started playing again - there were four houses in Cario & Centralia. I then went to Hennepin, Joliet, and Chicago. Stopped there since I have played the game too many times. :)

Usually I try to connect Cario to Paducah and go from there... Once I was even able to connect to Hopkinsville and haul a lot of lumber. Other times I just try to go straight through the state to Chi-town. Very rarely do I connect to St. Louis.

I reached Gold.  At least the ledger says I have completed the requirements.  I played maybe a year every other day as I had time.  Later I will play until the gold event fires

I built a line from the great lakes to the Gulf and 4 lines to the West off of the main line.  Added a second double track part way North and South to reduce congestion.  A Steel Mill finally built in the center of the map.  Have yet to make steel.  Iron and coal is on the way.  I have merged the AIs only to have them rebuild again.  Since I didn't buy controling interest in my stock, the AI chairmen did.  So I can't operate any of the AI RRs without losing control of my own RR.

I think I could have reached Gold before the Civil War started.  But I wanted to run the map through the war period of time.  The locomotive distruction in the war was a pain.  After the war started and at one point I had one crash and 5 train breakdowns in between train arrivals.  I had about 100 trains running.  On the average I had maybe a breakdown for every train arrival at a station.  This was partly because I expanded the track too rapidly and didn't place enough water towers.  I was still making 10 to 15 million each year.

I finally had a Union General send out patrols to keep the trains safe.  (saved game after each delivery and restated to a time before a breakdown. doing this deleted the breakdowns)

I've enjoyed this map enough to want to play on after a win.  Anyway the war is not over yet and I want to find out if I need to finish the western North/South route

Today, to delayed the win, I took out bonds and built the North/South line to the West.

I am still having problems with crashes and breakdowns; Those grey coats are doing a good job of disrupting train traffic. I have removed most of these problem is the same way as before. This could be called cheating but The union scouts are just doing a good job of protecting the trains.

At one point I had 6 breakdowns between trains reached a station. No new AI railroads at this time. I merged them all.  Those chairmen control many of the shares in my railroad.  Maybe tomorrow I'll continue for another year and post again.

Tonight I ran the map well past the end of the Civil War.  I enjoyed the play.  Spent about 40 or 50 million on new track, locos and stations.  Ended up with about 160 locos, 2 meat plants and 3 steel mills.  I paid off the one bond that kept the gold win from firing.  It didn't fire.  I will check that out later.  I enjoyed playing this map and the status reports told me that the gold win had been met even though it didn't fire.

My custom, when I like a map, is to make some changes to a map and play it again as a version 2.

I think I will change the ports to receive paper, instead of food and add a couple of ports on the Mississippi River.  I may reduce the number of logging camps and add 2 or 3 twin cities in un-populated areas and limit the loco break downs and crashes to the war years.  Etc.

I checked the gold win problem and found the box for the "remap to territory" was checked.

For anyone who downloaded this map, open the editor, double click on territory, (flag on left side of screen) then for each connection city, (Four cities) remove the X from the box that says "remap to territory".  Then re-save the map.  You should then be good to go.

I was going to do what you suggested Gwizz but when I opened the city all I saw was a box labeled "Remap Right Mouse Click" which had a check mark in it. No box for "Remap to territory".

Is that the box you're talking about?

Yes Hawk   Sorry about that.  I should have been more clear.

The remap box does change a territory to a different territory.  In this case all connection city territories have the same territory number.  I'm not sure why there would be a need to re-map a territory when makin a map or if the remap box is even needed.  It is easy to just change the territory number in the trigger.  The box may have been a programming shortcut tool that was not removed.

Maybe someone will enlighten me in a use for this remap check box.

In the past I have checked this box on a couple of my maps and with the status events working correctly, it took a while to figure out just why the win events didn't fire.

Also If anyone is in the middle of a game, It is possible to re-type the game.extention, and make the game a map.  Then you can move the map to the map file, take it to the editor and uncheck the remap boxes for the 4 connection city territories.  Then re-type the map.extension back to a Game.extention and move it back to the game file and continue on with the game.

I hope I explained that correctly.  It is a simple change.  If anyone is not sure what was done, click next to a connection city on the map.  Each connection city should have its own territory around it with a different territory number for each city.

This is a fun map and well worth the effort to fix this small problem.

Thanks for making the map Superchief.

Its so quiet I'd thought I drop a line here. No bait on my hook though.

I see no particular reason why the gold would not trigger. Of course you must have all objectives met on time because the trigger will only fire on Jan 1 of the 26th elapsed year. But I only played for 7 years so I could have missed something.

There are for sure some situations that could be dealt with by the author, not the least of which is the positioning of the Cairo territory, for example.

If the Status Report says that some or all key cities (actually territories) are not connected when you think they should be, I recommend you take the original map into the editor, make borders of each territory visible, save (under a new name) and reload in the editor so you can see where you missed, then go back and build and connect another station in the missed territory in your actual saved game. In other words, territory x is still territory x regardless of mapping or visibility.

You can try what Gwizz said and the scenario may still be playable, but looking at the errors it introduces into the status report, I wouldn't count on triggers working properly after that.

PS: They might, I just wouldn't count on it.

Loco-Motive is correct on the possible changing of some saved parts of a game.

Going into the editor is like starting a new map.

Generally a saved game also saves all of the math numbers.

By changing the game extention to a map extension, in its self. won't turn counters back to zero.

But, RRT2 does have a little creep.  Creep allows a game to do something while on pause.

This creep has never caused me a problem unless I stay too long in the editor.

If the map should creep across a time line or if the map is started in the editor some math counters could be re-set to zero.  Numbers relating to time could then change in the company ledger.

This should not affect win requirements for this map

When the map extention is changed back to a game extention the saved win numbers should still be saved as they were.

To limit this possibility when you take the map to the editor, just un-check the Xs in the 4 territory Re-map boxes and re-save the map without doing anything else.

As the game is continued the triggers for the connected cities will find correct territory numbers and fire true and if all other requirements are met a win event will fire.
