The source code is at EA studios, the current owner of the game assets. God luck getting it from them.

Adding new units and vehicles is not possible at this time.

The changes I made involved modifying the .mis files, which change the scenario.

Provided that they still have it, that is.

I doubt they would ditch it, there is always a reason to keep old game assets.

EA is a large corporation, and if they can find a way to make money from something, they will.

For all I know, the source code could have been lost during the acquisition of WS, or maybe later, especially taking into account that the production of Dune 2000 was outsourced in the first place. It is not to say that they definitely lost the source code, but Dune 2000 really holds little potential profit now for the EA, and, being a huge money-making corporation as you've said, they have other priorities now.

It is actually quite alarming that many companies are rather careless with their old legacy, even if it's their own and not something they just acquired the rights to like EA did with WS titles. Stuff related to game production is, in fact, more likely to be preserved thanks to individual efforts of someone who participated in the development, rather than through centralized company initiative.

MVI talked to someone on the dev team, EA does indeed have the tools. Whether EA even knows where they put them is another story.

BTW, has anyone ever tried petitioning for the source code? I remember there was a failed petition regarding Dune 2 code, but that was long before EA started generously giving away old games to promote their new products.

I doubt they would give it away, the most they would do is offer it as freeware, and I heard they couldn't do that because of licensing terms.
