Recently I've noticed that Firefox (both 3 and 4) slows down drastically whenever I'm loading or viewing a page with a Google Chrome ad in SWF format (the one with the pixelated hourglass and Chrome logo). As this got really annoying, I tried to block these files entirely by going Page properties -> Multimedia -> Block all images from the designated source. However, this didn't help, either because Shockwave Flash objects aren't images, or because the info about these ads says they're "built-in" objects and can't be turned off. As these ads are almost everywhere, you can guess I'm quite annoyed.

Come to think of it, I'd actually prefer turning off Shockwave Flash animations altogether, if it's at all possible.

Do you use adblock+? That along with easylist subscription should get rid of it.

Just installed it, hope it'll help :)

[Edit] Wow, AdBlock Plus is just awesome! :D

Yes, I assumed everyone who uses firefox used adblock+. I can't surf the web without it. There is also adblock for chrome if you ever use that browser.
