Dune 2000 - Still played online?

Hey there.

A few basic questions, I hope you can help me. I played Dune a few years ago online and stopped.. So, my questions:

Is Dune 2000 still played online?

Is the community particularly active?

How do I participate? Any downloads, patches etc

Yes, Dune2k is still played online. AFAIK official westwood server is closed long time ago & XWIS community server don't support Dune2k nowadays.

So community is very small & not to active. Ppl use different clients & VPN software to play in Dune2k today (some users even wanted to create own server, but faced problems and stoped). Such client as GameRanger or Hamachi - software for VPN. To make use of native IPX/SPX protocol under WinXP via Hamachi you should download Hamachi 1.0.1.5 ver. You may download my videoguide explaining how to install & config IPX/SPX protocol under WinXP here

For GameRanger you will need Dune2k 1.02 game ver (cause GR don't support 1.06). You may download it here. ~50.2 MB no videos.

For Hamachi any game ver. will work. I prefer Hamachi most. Cause GR lead to lags & huge speed slowdowns, especially when playing more than 2 players game.

Using Hamachi It doesn't matter what game ver to launch & there are no problems with different Windows OS (if using same particular config!).

Dune2k utilize IPX/SPX protocol that is available in Win98 & XP. But there is a great stand alone "patch" that make use of UDP protocol under any modern Windows OS instead of native IPX/SPX. ;)

If someone could compile the software id host the server, as is I cannot make heads or tails and thats whats holding it back.
