Dune 2000, sound problem in Win XP

Hi,

I've dusted off my old copy of Dune 2000 for a bit of nostalgia but after installing the sound stutters very badly on my Win XP machine and acnnot seem to find any way to fix it. The rest of the game runs ok its just the sound that is a problem.

Hardware:

CPU: Athlon XP 2600+ (1.9 GHz)

Sound Card: Creative Audigy 2 ZS

GFX: Ati Radeon 9600

Memory: 1 Gb DDR 400

Things I've tried with no success:-

1) Running in Win 95 / Win 98 and Win 2k Compatibility mode

2) Reinstalling sound drivers

3) Shutting down unneeded services

Has anyone got any other ideas what I could try?

I also have this problem, I have Windows XP with a SB X-Fi and also stutter sound in Dune 2000.

This is what FAQ of Westwood says:

  4.6.3 DirectSound object errors and Soundblaster cards

  There is a known conflict between Soundblaster PCI sound cards (AWE64 PCI,

  Sounblaster PCI) and DirectX 6.  If you are running one of these cards and

  are using DirectX 6 to play the game, try uinstalling DX6 and reinstalling

  the version from the Dune CD - this should fix the problem.  Microsoft and

  Creative Labs are working on this problem, and may already have new

  drivers available.

Hi,

Used to work on my machine with a PCI sound card but with Windows 2000 not XP.  Think that bit you put up is rather out of date as DirectX 6 is very old!  Thanks anyway.

Anyone else got any ideas?
