garth
If you want to play Dune2000 multiplayer but Westwood Online wont work because you have AoL, then go to www.heat.net its completely free but you can choose to upgrade your membership to premium if you wish to take part in ladder events, competitions, etc. The only probably with HEAT is that not many people are ever in the Dune2000 people, but if you spread the word maybe it can become a good place for people with all connections, not just aol, to the game. garth
At the main site you click "new users click here" button then follow the directions, after youre done with that you go to play games now and select Dune2000, after you enter your username and password it will take you through a little update and after that youre in the lobby. From there, you can make a game room and once inside and with another person click "launch" and youre off =)
Westwood Studios buttercup Posted July 11, 2000 Westwood Studios Share Posted July 11, 2000 Unfortunately, this is a common problem with America Online. AOL does not seem to allow for UDP connections on most of their servers, which we use for some of our games. UDP is a specific type of TCP/IP connection which allows for faster data transfer and smaller packet sizes. Some of AOL's dial-up connections in some cities now seem to use this protocol, but chances are good that if you are having trouble connecting or registering, yours currently does not. Unfortunately, there is presently nothing we can do to help resolve this issue. If you still wish to attempt using AOL, we recommend trying during non-peak AOL hours, and you should be able to connect if you are persistent. However, we cannot guarantee that your connections will be stable, or that you will be able to play games to completion without disconnections. If Internet gameplay is your main reason for being online, we suggest that you might look into alternate Internet providers that support standard UDP connections.Or as Shaddam Corrino suggests, check out Heat.net
