Quiet fan

The two brands that I have noticed always get quoted as being quiet are the papst and panaflo fans. They have a reputation for being very quiet. They dont push the most air, but if you a good balance between sound and cooling, they are good.

I had a fan that pushed 100+ CMF of air for about 50db. I changed that for a panaflo which only pushes under half the air, but for nearly half the sound. Cooling for me was not badly affected (I had a bad setup with that louder fan, it was not aligned very well) and its very quiet now, I dont get head aches from sitting at computer !

you always got the same problem with aircooling solutions: the less noise they make the less air they transport and less effective they are. so if you got a fan at 4000rpm of course it is loud. very quiet 80x80 fans are:

I have 2 Y.S. Tech... and I can't hear them at all... but as I mentioned they all haven't a lot of airflow... maybe you wanna take a look at this page:

They tested 57 fans - the test is in german but this last page is just the ranking so you don't need to read much about the fans themselves. you can also listen to the noises of the fans if you go for the description of each fan in the categories they belong to.
