Prison Conditions

I saw this on another forum:

Where I'm from at least, the jails are not nearly enough punishment. They have become more of a social retreat.

A couple examples of this:

Want to join a fitness club but don't want to spend the money? Just commit a crime that doesn't have fines attached and you have a few years' access to a free fitness program.

Want to just chill with your buddies? Like above, just commit a crime with your friends and you're in!

My suggestion is to keep them in their cell when they're not working/eating. A prison isn't supposed to be a social club/fitness club yet that has what it has become. The community service and healthy food should be enough to keep them fit; thus eliminating the need for weight lifting and other exercises.

That  was the initial post in the topic. His opinion of prisons seems to come from a bad Hollywood movie. From his following posts I understood that prisoners should be kept in 6by6 lightless cells 24/7. From the rest he wrote the guy's a moron if not an idiot. He also stated that inmates should have no contact with people on the outside - no visiting no phonecallsm nothing. If they can't communicate they will only get worse and commit another crime once their out. My opinion of the poster: Moron.

Yeah that's pretty stupid. I don't know where people get the idea from that prison is not a bad place or even enjoyable.

Depends on the prison.  The prison martha stewart went to is more like a college campus than a prison.  (thats how SHE described it)

The max security prison for murders is pretty nasty i am sure... complete with sodomy.  However i think the minimum security prisons ARE a bit too lax on the inmates and probably resemble fitness clubs or college campuses.  They shouldnt be tortured and sodomized like the max security prison inmates currently are.... but their life should be made somewhat more difficult.  Perhaps more community service and less freetime.
