Well I'm Back!

Not that I was actually gone, just busy with work, and then Half-Life 2 took up the rest of the time I had, well, I reinstalled EBFD, bought myself the latest prequel, and I'm back in the game. ;D

Anyways, since without it this would not be a Dune related thread, I'll ask a question about the Duniverse. If the Atreides are actually a derivitve of the Harkonnen, where and why did they split? I remember the original book mentioning it, but from there, I can't remember.

They were never one in a sense.

Atreides came from way back in the ancient times (before Christ). Came from Atreus.

Not sure where Harkonnen came from, but it is a Finnish name.

During the Battle of Corrin (when the machines were killing everyone) the Harkonnen betrayed the Atreides and ever since they have disliked each other. They never had the same genes until Duke Leto and Jessica had Paul.
