Frank Herbert and the Sociology of Drugs

Dune people are also physically dependant to water, so they can be completely used (and they are).

The specific problem with drug dependancy is that drugs are physically degenerative.

Otherwise drugs are just extreme "free trade".

You need water. You pay for it.

You need drug. You pay for it.

Whether vital or superficial, the market doesn't make a difference.

What is immoral is more the destructive potential than the addiction.

China has the Opium consumers.

England has the shipping power.

China authorities want to stop the shipping.

So England declares war to secure the market.

That's "free trade" practice, admitedly extreme, but nothing specific to drugs.

yeah but you dont need drugs, yet if you take some of them you need them to not suffer from withdrawls, a huge difference man. and that is just the general difference.
