Is it playable with only one player too?

Oh yeah.  You can play one, two, three or four player.  The game also adjusts the difficulty depending on the number of players and the levels of each.  For example, a single first level player would get 1/4 of the enemies that four first level players would (or thereabouts).  The ratios are kind of fuzzy, but the overall effect is a challenging and rewarding game.
