I was sitting here watching television, flipping through the channels when I came upon one of those "Deliverance Ministries" where they supposedly drive demons out of people.

I got to thinking, and it reminded me of something I had asked a person if I could use on other forums, after she pointed it out.  This is what she said:

If not preaching salvation, deliverance ministries are not focused on Christ. Those who make these claims often hold "conversations" with demons. Jesus never resorted to asking demons why they were angry, he told them to get out.

Which when you think of it is true.  Jesus didn't have to go "Hi what's your name" "Well that's nice Demon Bob, so what's your purpose" and then finally "Get out of that person".

How many of these "Deliverance Ministries" truly act out of love of God, and not...enlightened self interest?  Just a question.

totally ordos.

this is something I dont talk about a whole lot and shouldnt be, but I figure it is kinda important here. All pastors have the job to hold exorcisms. They are extremely rare and it is one thing where the Catholic church really does well on docternally. It isnt something to be taken so lightly. You have to go through a process called an anamnesis. You basically look at the persons past history, their mental and physical health, if they are taking any drugs (either legal or illegal), their family life, and so on. If that looks clean then you study the behavior of the person for a bit.

After this then you look back on the persons family spiritual history, and if there is any occult or evil activity that goes back to the great grandparents, you then study on that specifically, because the bible says that that kind of evil carries up to 4 generations, and can even effect believers in that family.

Anyways if it is proven beyond a doubt that it is demonic possession, which is extremely extremely rare, and isnt just demonic obsession or oppression, then you start the exorcism.

in it you NEVER EVER talk to a demon, as they are liars, and are never to be trusted in anything they say. And in exorcisms they do speak often, and in strange languages and voices. They also can bring up a persons past history to embarress them, which appened to my dad on one occasion. He only told me of one event, but wont tell me anymore stuff as he says it is dangerous to study into that kind of thing, I had to learn this from other sources, like Kerc Coch, a German and great pastor and believer, who was tortured and almost killed by the secret police during WW2 for helping a jewish family to survive.

Anyways I totally agree with you, and most of these people who talk about demonic deliverance are usually charismatics who speak in tongues and are generally over emotional in their worship. They treat all cases like this as demon possession, and not only is that spiritually messed up, but it can relaly mess up a mind of that person. I mean it can be really bad on the person.

Also I dont like how they slandor against satan and demons, and treat it so lightly. Michael, the great arch angel when he confronted satan did not make "railing accusations" but said the lord rebuke you. To call satan names is dangerous, and to treat it so lightly is like playing with a Giant, you will get hurt. Always respect an enemy if it is more powerful than you, even if it is evil.

This kind of stuff always obthers me, and it is usually penticostals who do this. bleh

Over emotional in their worship?.... wow..... thats a new one.

I guess we should all read hymns from a hymn book

I guess we should all read hymns from a hymn book  in a zombie like fashion.

i myself prefer a solemn worship but that does not mean i will speak lowly of others in that area for wanting to sing praises loudly and dance or play an instrument.

I think TMA was talking about the kinds of folks who writhe around, or start talking gibberish.

Tounges, in the Bible at least, seems to be talking like you do, and everyone understands in their home language.  At least that's what I've gotten from scripture.  I could be wrong, it's happened before, and will again and again.

I'm a bit strange in how I prefer to worship.  I usually prefer upbeat and contemporary music.  Sometimes though, a traditional hymn seems compelling.  Either way, the sermons are based on the same scriptures.  It reminds me of that one saying "Maybe God doesn't care how you pray, as long as you do."
