I don't know if you guys know this, but soon a new game is coming out called Sid Meier's Pirates! (not to be confused with the original Pirates!, released in '87). I can't wait!

I'm fascinated by pirates in general, even by how one would define the word 'pirate' in the first place. Was Sir Francis Drake a pirate, for instance? Many Brits didn't like to think so. It would probably be best to say that, while he was on his first (rather famous) expedition, he was a pirate since he hadn't yet received his Letter of Marque. After he did, he obviously became a privateer. It's interesting to note that Elizabeth I called him: "My pirate." (I've heard an historian define a pirate as anyone who commits robbery on the high seas.)

But back to the games. Did anyone here enjoy Pirates! Gold as much as I did? And what about Pirates!? I thought, for one thing, that the sword fights were better in the first game.
