Can someone help out a newbie?

I just recently got the game (yeah, I know... I'm a little late :)), and I'm looking for advice on a few things.

(1) When I order a unit to move to a particular area, will they always stop to engage the enemy if they spot them on the way?

1- Always, as far as I know

2- Use snipers etc on infantry, and let them choose their targets. With vehicles, use rocket and APDS firing units, and fire on one at a time, concentrating on missile tanks and dangerous things.

3- Group them - CTRL+(1-9)

4- Put it into Guard Mode

for the grouping thing. when you have the group and some more a built press t twice and you'll select every unit of that kind on the map and then put them in groups again quick

As far as I know unit will not stop to engage the enemy if they are moving. They will only do that if you gif them a move  order while holding CTRL+SHIFT

I recently bought emperor and how do i get my units to ride the worms? it says to deploy a thumper but how?

theres no thumper unti like in dune2k

you have to use the Fremen subhouse. and build a fedaykin. Deploy him and worm will come.

Oh, sorry, Repair usit doesn't have a guard mode - it will repair automatically.
