Windows XP vs Emperor vs DirectX 9.b

Emperor doesn`t start up. I get the westwood screen, then black and then I`m back in Windows XP. I had it running with no problems on Windows ME. I dont use Norton or something alike. Newest drivers and everything, I`m no fool. I also tried some forums, alot have the same problem, but it always involves Anti-virus software, which I don`t have. I also tried the EMPEROR INSTALL FIX 1.0, but this can`t be the issue, because it installs without problems. By the way, I used patch 1.09 EN. Tried the Windows XP compatibility settings, with no results

Specs: Pentium 3.0 GHZ

1024 Dual Channel ddr memory

2x 40 gigabyte maxtor harddisks at raid 0

Ati 9800pro

1 dvd ROM

1 cd ROM

DirectX 9.B

I hope someone can help me with this problem, because this is one of the best games ever.

Sure we can help you, check that you have the windows service pack SP1a installed.

Please attach your dxdiag report in your reply.

Start/run type in dxdiag, run the tests save the report and attach it.

I`m not an expert on these things. So I`ve tried to attach what I believe is dxdiag, but I was unable to post it due this message.

Sorry! That filename is already taken. Please rename the file and try again.

Ok this should do it. I must apologize for my stupidity on these matters. And I must thank you for your aid.[attachment archived by Gobalopper]

Your welcome ! :)

It's as I suspected, download the SP 1 a service pack from Microsoft and the game should run, when you have installed it, un-install Emperor and re-install it.

Then it should work.

To download the patch, go online with Internet Explorer, click on the tools tab at the top of the window, select Windows Update and let the Microsoft update service scan for updates.

Select just the Service Pack(critical update) and away you go. :)

Note: I recommend that you buy McAffee Firewall and anti-virus package, going on the Internet without one is a bit irresponsible, there are so many Viruses out there, doing so leaves you wide open to attacks.

Contrary to popular belief you don't even have to open an E-mail to get infected, surfing on the web and visiting sites can get your computer infected.

I run both and even then I got one virus last month, so please be warned.

Once you have the game working allow automatic updates, I will tell you how to do it if you need further help.OK ?

I have installed the SP1 on my computer following the path you outlined to me. But I don`t understand why the SP1 does not come with the automatic updates. After this I uninstalled and reinstalled Emperor, only this time I had the same problems when I tried to run it, snaps right back to the desktop. Of course I used EMPENGINSTFIX10 patch, with the result it, installed fine. Then I patched it up to em109en. Only when I start the game, it still has the same problem.

It starts, shows the Emperor start-screen, screen turns black and the game snaps back to desktop, like nothing happened.

I`ve attached another DXdiag. [attachment archived by Gobalopper]

Is your ATI graphics card newly installed ?

I think you will have to enable it in your BIOS,

when you boot up your computer press and hold the delete key, to enter the BIOS settings, look through the menus until you see AGP, see if it says enabled, if not enable it and restart your comp after you press F10 to save the settings to CMOS and exit.

I think if that doesn't work then that you will have to re-install the graphics card drivers.

Let me know please.

I`m sorry again, of course I should have thought about the compatibility modus.

It now runs fine on the 95/98/SE modus.

Though the movie scenes will lockup in the Coopertive mode.

I thank you a lot for looking into my problem.

You know by the way something about Lan coopertive options?

Glad to hear it's working for you now.
