it all started when I was a wee tyke :D

I grew up in an atheist family. they told me that any kind of faith/religion etc is a mere waste of time and bla bla bla. for many years I carried that thought along. until I became an adult. I started living on my own (with some others) and I slowly began to find out who and what I was supposed (sp) to be.

my family had never beliefed in any kind of god. shoo they even said that SHOULD I marry in a church (provided IF I marry at all, not likely ;D) they would not come to the wedding.

at any rate as I grew up I started to study the world's great religions and looked if I could find a place for myself in any of these. well I compared the advantages and disadvantages of each major religion and came to the conclusion that I would be better of in basicly believing in a god, wether he is male or female or hermafrodite ::)

I think the basis of any religion is to have faith in your god. so for some years I have done so, secret yet, as there is but one person (my best and only friend ;)) who knows about my self-found belief.

My parents would declare me a moron/weirdo the list goes on.

It is not my fault that I grew up in an atheist family, and now that I control my own life, I decide what to do or to belief.

I was wondering if any one of you has the same problem.

i'm sorry for you... ;) just kidding

No, my situation is a little different. My grandmother and grandfather are ferm believers in God. My father does not go to church, yet he wants us to pray for meals etc. and i think he does believe in god. My mother doesn't believe in God though, and i neither am convinced that god exists, so i remain an atheist.

I am planning to marry in a church though, but i see it as part of tradition, not because i want it for god.

You can be raised in a family full of fanatical catholics, but if YOU don't find out what is it all about, you won't really believe. Main thing is to understand what He tells to us and then live by it. You can go to church and tell some formulas as prayer before you go to sleep, but why if you don't know why you are doing so? Religion is to give you something, not to "take time".

i understand. Because i'm praying, does not mean because i want to believe in god, but because my father does it, and he expects us to do it to. I've did so since my birth so why disappoint him. However, unless i turn religious like Big D, i will not continue to do so in my own family (or unless my wife is religious ofcourse)

My entire family is christian, but don't attend church much. I decided upon Atheism early on, and my parents couldn't really understand it... but they didn't seem to care too much about it.
