selecting an ally in wol

How do I ally with another player in an online game I tried pressing the A key but no success ?

I no this is very basic but I can't find an answer anywhere !

press tab, then click on the square box next to your ally's name. the box to the left hand side. when it turns white, you have done your job. when he does the same thing, the box next to the one you clicked will be white too and you will be allied

otherwise, you have to click on a unit of his and press A to ally, which no one in the universe ever does and hence it should not even be in the game. just use Tab
