Well, what do you class as a profession? Some (mostly rural) firefighters are indeed voluntary, but many rely on it as a job. Is that not the definition of a profession?

In their first year, they reduced benefits for single parents, have failed to increase those for the elderly in line with inflation, and in the NHS, only high-level admins have received pay rises above inflation; on average, for the remainder, real wages have decreased.

Well, as I think the firefighters are usually trained volunteers with equipment provided by police.
