  1. Tracked this down to a permissions issue in my folders. The WOL updates were not able to save withing the folders they needed to. This one is solved.
  2. Setting up a desktop pc to Play Dune2k. Has XP. Installed with no problem. Going to multiplayer/Internet causes the familiar dialog box to show up for a required download. The download occurs (small 109K file) but the dialog box never leaves, even after 100% download. I wait many minutes, and it just stays there. Only option is cancel button, which I hit. But the download didn't 'take'. every time I go back to multiplayer/internet the same thing occurs. Never seen this before....Ideas?
  3. Thank you for creating this installer. I installed it on a laptop this morning. Now can play games against the computer. However when logging in to the old westwood servers for multiplayer, it comes starts to log in, but comes back with the error in attached image. Ever seen this?
  4. Reading these last 2 entries I tried something, since I have 2 computers to play with. Computer 1: - Desktop PC with Vista - Dune 2000 installed w/1.06 Patch - RA2 installed after d2k Results: Can not get to run WW online successfully, even using the compatability options. Either crashes w/o compatability, or screen flickers constantly w/98 or 95 option. :-X Computer 2: - Thinkpad with XP Professional - Dune 2000 installed w/1.06 Patch - RA2 never installed Results: Runs on WW online with no problems. Do not need to use the compatability options. ;D Both computers were wifi through common router with Upnp enabled. I'm thinking AMIgaBot may be onto something with the registry and RA2. How did you "edit registry key and turn back changes before installing stuff then i could use dune"
  5. I tried them all. 95 and 98 cause screen to stutter. others crash once online at WW.
  6. Your right, I had, in response to reading some older postings, updated the Host file with Westwood server info. Now deleting that, I am able connect. However the game crashes almost immediately, though I did capture a screen shot (attached). Now focusing on compatability mode. Windows 98 mode, just causes the screen to skip/stutter constantly. I've tried all the modes, but none seem to solve the crashing phenomena. I'm using Vista. will keep trying.
  7. Thanks. If you and others can log in and play, it has to be some configuration/setting issue on my end. I'm able to play red alert online...but not dune2000 Here are the steps I'm going throug to login: (1) Launch d2k 8bit (2) Multiplayer (3) Internet (4) No to registering (5) Enter user id and pw, click Connect It takes anywhere from 30s to over a minute and comes back w/invalid id/pw error. I'll keep trying. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  8. Thanks for all the ID/s and PW. I tried them all, and each had the same "invald id/PW" error message. Are you able to log in to Westwood Online using any of these id's now? Maybe its something on my end. I'm using the 1.06 patch.
  9. I did not know the original servers were still operational. I keep getting error message: Connection Failed: Invalid User/Password Even taking care to have user and ID 8 characters long.
  10. Has anyone had success playing dune2k against others using Gameranger lately? A few of us tried recently but regardless of who hosts, get various problems. If Gameranger is not working, is Hamachi the only other option?
  11. Gladly, back to playing dune2k after...a million years away. Desperately want to play online versus friends/relatives. Registered a couple userid's w/Gameranger. All seems to go well until starting up the new game. Host join gameroom, host starts game..good. Now d2k starts. Selection options, internet, lan..etc. Internet always goes to westwood which seems a dead end. hitting enter/lan brings me to the familiar menu for games available where Dune2000 Lobby is only option. Selecting NEW works but the 2nd user never sees this game as available to join. Suggestions? I've been reading all kinds of threads in this forum, but haven't seen this yet. I'm hoping its a simple solution due to my first time trying this on Gameranger. Thanks Adam
