Atomic,Meganoob vs Limiano,Goodevil
Ultimate Noobinator replied to limiano's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
Yeah, good idea :) The general problem seems to be that not everyone turns up at the designated time and date, so if we could make sure we are all reading this thread (or just all in the same chatroom sometime) we could ALL agree on a game ;) -
help with single player modus
Ultimate Noobinator replied to KALONY's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
Normal skirmish mode? Even harder to beat than the rest of the noobs in here? Hey, that means I can beat myself like three times over, piece o' cake ;D I bet YOU can't claim that, Kal ;) Hehehe, if you can't beat em with your own power, beat em with THEIR power :) -

Pffft, I'd say he's underestimating me as the...oh...wait...Omeganoob, oh yeah, heheh, dont worry about it ;D Anyway, at time of typing, 8pm Sunday is looking fine for me, though I'll update this if that changes :) -

Yep, Goodevil, you certainly know when to show up lol ;D But anywayz, random yet called for immature jibes aside, we could certainly arrange a game or two soon. As you may have noticed, Ato has scheduled a match against Centner and Whistler, so perhaps if we could organise a match after that date (this coming Sunday) to keep things straightforward :) Thanx -

Lmao, when I said 'noobs', I meant just that - mere mortals. There are, after all, only two groups - good and better, if you like. So saying 'noobs' is just saying the 'good', in that sense. Thats all I meant lol, no offense intended. And thanx for sorting things out, Voodoo :) -

Ok, now im really lost. First, Limiano, you said you'll be fine to 2v1 us as long as you have sub houses and we dont. Then you ask if anyone would be your teammate and then you say forget it. WHAT is going on? Mordusxxx, if you're a noob, check with Voodoo and Limiano to see if you can fill in Goodevil's spot in the tourney. If you're not a noob, forget it, because you'll tear us to shreds :) We really have to get this sorted out. I mean, Limiano, if you weren't happy with the idea of a handicapped 2v1, why'd you suggest it? Or did u change your mind or something lol? If we could just clear this up, and then get the teams sorted based on whatever you originally intended, we should be fine :) -

lol, I was just flattered that someone mistook me for a good noob, :) but moving on Seeing as nobody has corrected me, I am assuming that the match will be held at 10.00 am gmt + 8 (my time). If somebody notices this is wrong, I probably wont be checking back here until tomorrow anyway, but seeing as we've had a whole week to resolve this, it should be right :) Cya on the dunez tomorrow ;D -

Pffft, my own teammate managed to get my name wrong ;)... if I were Meganoob, that would imply i'm a GOOD noob... Omeganoob, on the other hand, means last, final, or WORST noob ;D lol Anyways, just verifying the times you've listed there. When you say GMT+2, are you saying that it's 2.00am for Greenwich? So for a GMT+8 country it would be 2+8=10, or 10.00am? Please correct this if I have gotten the wrong idea :) Thanx *O*meganoob -
Lol, Omeganoob was taken too >:( who could think they are more nooby than I??? So anyway, I'm ultimatenoobinator on xfire (just my fed2k name without spaces or caps), and I've just added you all (or I think I have anyway, still getting used to it lol), so to quote another, add me as well! ;D

Hey, from what I gather, Limiano and Atomic share the same account on fed2k (please correct me if I'm wrong lol), and, as of time of typing, neither of them have been on since the 7th. Now, I'm not sure if Ato (my teammate by the way) has been on in game or not, so if he has, it's all good, but from what I know he hasn't been on lately. Also, Limiano's email is hidden, so I'm not sure if I can contact Ato (or, indeed, Limiano, as we'll have to face him at some point too). So pretty much do you know any easy way to contact him? Perhaps he's been on msn or something (I dunno if he's told us his msn on a thread, I just know it isnt listed in Limiano's profile). Again, if Ato actually has his own account or something, please say so lol ;D

Say, has anyone considered my idea yet? It maintains fairness and enjoyment, finding a way to handicap teams without making them any less good. Lol, you didn't think I wrote all that up just to get told its a bit complicated did you? Come on, where's some feedback :) Besides, I find it more inviting than having noobs v noobs and elites v elites - I wanna be swept by experts compared to experts, not experts compared to me! ;D lol -

Ok, here's an idea, granted a nooby idea, just like myself, but hey, it's still an idea: The problem seems mainly that, even though noobs have usually been put with elites, there are differences in HOW elite and HOW nooby each player is. Pretty much, even if two people fall into the 'noob' category, one would still most likely own the other. For example, Voodoo, you say your a 'not very good' player, but I have no doubt at all that you would completely and totally own me in a game. Now, this wouldn't be a problem if there were as many catagories as there were players, but something tells me that's not going to happen, so... You could handicap every team further still, only instead of handicapping good players with noobs, your handicapping the current teams with less points for a win or loss. For example, lets say that the team of Leo and Lastgoyo, described as 'two great players' by Spaze, are the favourites for the tourny. They could get, say, 10 points for a win and 6 points for a loss. Then, say there are two other teams that look like they would be competing for second, but certainly not for first. They could get 11 points for a win, and 7 points for a loss. This proccess would continue (but not necasarily in that order - the point system could go into decimals for a fairer game, for example) until we reach the '2 teams that have weak players', as pointed out by Spicy, which could get, say, 13 points for a win and 9 for a loss. This way, every 4 wins for the '2 teams that have weak players' beats every 5 wins by Leo and Lastgoyo by two points. (Bear in mind these team ups are based off what everyone else has being saying - I have only ever played one other person in this tourny before, so naturally I have no idea how handicapped each team should be, so I'll leave that to you, Voodoo :) ) Yes, I realise that the points system should be different - the difference between a win and a loss should change according to how many different catagories of handicapping there are. For example, say there are six different handicapping levels, starting at Leo and Lastgoyo getting 6 for a loss, the next 7, the next 8, etc, but all the way to 13 because of the variety of catagories. In this case, of course Leo and Lastgoyo should get at least 13.1 for a win - otherwise it would be impossible for them to win the tourny. Lets say, for this example, they get 14. So that would be 8 higher than their loss equivelent. Then this would be the same for each team respectively - for a win they get 8 more points more than a loss, instead of the four more I had in the last paragraph. So, pretty much, the point system should, of course, change according to how many levels of handicapping you have. Also, the difference between a win and a loss should change according to just how nooby you think the noobiest team is, and how great the greatest team is. For example, if you think the noobiest team is REALLY REALLY nooby, then tinker with the points to make it 1 win from the noobiest team = four wins from Leo and Lastgoyo, or whoever the most favoured team is. Of course, the gap between points for a win and points for a loss would be huge here, very different indeed to the original 4 for a loss and 5 four a win, or however similar you had, but it's your choice whether it ends up making it fairer or not. Naturally, the biggest problem I see (amongst, of course, many others) with this is that the tourny would no longer fully revolve around pure skill - the point system would now take a much bigger part in the game - but as I said, it's just an idea, and one can never have too many of them :) -

Yeh, I have broadband, I wasnt saying that my comp definitely would lag or crash, etc, I was just saying I didn't deem it worth it to wait for the tourny itself to test whether or not my comp would run it. Chances are it does it fine, but there's always that possibility. Okies, I'v done the getting online guide thing, my online nik is 'omeganoob' (hey, 'Ultimate' wouldnt fit, give me a break ;D). Ill try a game as soon as i can, but, problem being, whenever I'm on, no one else tends to be. Sorry about the compressed response, but i kind of g2g, so ill fill out the fields 2morrow, i take it thats wen i can be signed up? ;D -

Emperor medallions?!?!?! I'm SO in! Hopefully 'anyone and everyone' includes noobs like me ;D Just a question or two though. As you may be able to see by my current number of posts, I am a complete noob, and as such have never been in a tourny like this before. So, pretty much 1: I live in Australia, and as you may know the timezone here is very different to say America or Europe, so how exactly do we fit the times right so I can join in? Currently, (I think) the Australian timezone is 8 hours in front of GMT, so I'm not sure if there'll be an easy time to fit in on the weekend or not. If this causes too much trouble, just tell me and I'll leave (but you could always bribe me away with one of those shiny medallions ;D). Just remember I'm not sure how many Australians actively participate in this sort of thing anyway, so please have some mercy with the 'wtf this *points to clock* time is perfect, duh!!' sort of thing if that is indeed applicable :D 2: Not so much a question, and also much less important, but, as you may have gathered by now, I am a complete noob, and, at time of typing, have never played a game of Emperor online (though I'v had a fair few LAN games). So, I'm not all that worried about getting completely slogged, but I'm just not sure if my internet can handle it. I'v had no evidence to suggest it can't - it can run most games I'v tried to play online fine (Yuri's Revenge and Stronghold 2, mainly), but it wouldn't be all that snazzy if my first game online is an actual tourny match, and my comp just crashes or something. So I'm wondering if anyone who knows their where-ever-they-live-to-Australia-conversion-times could just have a quick online game with me, give me a slogging if they desire, but mainly just to test if my comp can run it without any problems. Anyway, if '1' proves all good and I can join in without too many problems, then sign me up ;) (if '1' is all good, but I can't get a game before the tourny, then I'll just have to take my chances in the first game). Oh, and could you put 'We'll see, Lastgoyo, we'll see...' next to my name lol? ;D
